pete hill in milwaukee & buffalo

•Ron Hill has gotten another plaque changed. A marker that commemorates the 1923 Milwaukee Bears of the Negro National League, managed by Pete Hill, mistakenly had Pete’s name as “Joseph Preston Hill”—but the Brewers are having it redone to correct his name.

•Ryan Whirty has written a good article about Pete Hill’s years in Buffalo, showcasing some research from Howard Henry and others.

The photo of Pete Hill is a detail from a team picture of the 1925 Baltimore Black Sox, courtesy of Ron Hill.  Doesn’t Pete look like he’s wearing one of his old Detroit Stars caps, though?  Everybody else in the photo is clearly wearing Black Sox caps.
