While researching the 1930 Negro leagues recently, I was checking a Brooklyn newspaper for a doubleheader between the Stars of Cuba and the Brooklyn Royal Giants. On the same page as the Negro league box scores I was surprised to see this article:

Yes, it’s that Phil Rizzuto. He grew up in Brooklyn and would later star for Richmond Hill High School. And here we learn that he apparently gained his first baseball fame as a sort of 12-year-old version of Eddie Gaedel.
