I'm not sure there's a big contradiction. It's not easy to tell where left field bleachers end and center field bleachers begin, plus 'went into the left field' bleachers doesn't preclude it being on a bounce. The distances for Yankee Stadium in 1930 were:

Left-Centerfield = 461
Left of Centerfield Corner = 491
Straightaway CF = 470
