The Hall left four players unidentified; based on box scores, they must be Jesse Barber, Sam Mongin, William “Knux” James, and Felix “Dick” Wallace, infielder and player/manager for a number of teams from the late 1900s through the 1920s.
Todd Peterson wrote the other day to identify the guy sitting in the middle of the front row, right in front of Joe Williams, as Felix Wallace. As confirmation, Todd sent along a couple of photographs of the 1909 St. Paul Gophers.
The first shows Wallace standing third from right. Incidentally, the tall guy at the far right is University of Minnesota alumnus and future NFL star Bobby Marshall.
In the second photo Wallace is standing at the far right, while Marshall is also standing, third from left.UPDATE 10/3/2009 Todd asked me to say that he obtained the top photo from the Hall of Fame and the second one from Mark Rucker’s Transcendental Graphics.
