The first Japanese to play baseball professionally in the United States had to register for the draft, too:
In August 1916 he was with an All-Nations team in the New York/New Jersey area; by June 1917 he was permanently based in Paterson, working as an importer.

The book says: his wife and family knew nothing of his “misadventures “ in the USA until the author came to interview them to write the book. Apparently his father demanded he give up baseball and go to work. The draft card indicates he went to work for the Mitsubishi Trading Corp.
