I found the following line score for an exhibition game in the New York Times (April 15, 1922):
If anybody has a guide that covers the 1922 season, check to see if “Manela” (or a similar name) appears with the Hartford Senators of the Eastern League. It would be interesting to see if he attempted to make the jump from the Negro National League to the Eastern League (just as Ramón Herrera did at about the same time).
Thanks. Looks like the next stop would be Hartford (and maybe Brooklyn) papers, to see if anything connects this Manela to our guy.

According to the Professional Baseball Players Statistical Database, Hartford did indeed have a pitcher named Manela (first name unknown) who had a record of 0-1. He was a "less than 10 games" player, so only his WL was given.
He does not show up in any other season or with any other team than Hartford EL 1922.
