Here it is: the standings file for the 1916 Negro Leagues.
UPDATED TO VERSION 1.3, 7/9/06
Because this is a work in progress, I have called it “Version 1.2.” I will definitely be updating it with more current research; all you have to do is make sure you have the latest version.
The standings file includes five tabs:
1) Standings
2) Home&Road: Breakdowns of home/road/neutral site records for each team, with park factor (for runs) calculated. This park factor is rudimentary, merely runs per game in the home park divided runs per game on the road (including neutral-site games).
3) Scores: The dates, scores, and locations of every game I have a record of, and whether or not I have found a box score.
4) Game Totals: The team batting, fielding, and pitching totals for every game with a box score. Each game is represented twice, as the totals for both teams are given. NOTE: this is actually cut and pasted from the “source” files where I type in each player individually, along with totals for each team. Column A consists of a unique line number, created like this:
yymmddgg.ll, where
y = year
m = month
d = date
g = game (each game on the same day is numbered, starting with “01”)
l = line (each player in a game is numbered separately, as are the lines for each team’s total)
Also, these totals are color-coded (I’ve included a key at the bottom of the sheet).
5) Research Summary: A quick look at where games were played, what newspapers I’ve consulted for those locations, and what box scores remain to be found.
