Charlie was Ebbets not Ebbetts, so unless it's a typo they wouldn't be related. There is a Joseph Ebbetts born 1847 that might be the ballplayer here.

Do we know whether the "Ebbetts" who played CF in the box score above is any relation to Charles Ebbetts of the Dodgers? NYC was a big city even then,of course,but in my experience that is not a common name. Charles would have been 8 in 1868, but perhaps he had an older brother or cousin?
